This is Bing, the Red Cross bear of Seattle. Daily he went down the main business street in interesting procession, led by a little girl or boy of the Jr. Red Cross. That is, he was supposed to be led. But Bing had a lot of initiative and generally did the leading himself. Two tin cups were thrown like a saddle across his back, and into these cups at every corner an abundance of silver was poured. We are compelled to say that Bing did not always show the proper Red Cross spirit. He was really as "savage as a bear" even when engaged in Red Cross work. For instance he kicked back at one time with a forceful hind paw and did violence to the stomach of the little girl who followed, perforce, in his wake
