The mother of Andre Claudel died a year ago. His father was killed in the Argonne and Andre is so quiet, so serious, that he seems much more than ten years old. He is like a young old man in all he says and does. He is one of the best students at the refugee colony at Caen where he has lived ever since he was driven away from his home in Lorraine by the shells and poison gas of the Germans. His teacher says: "il travaille dans al perfection," his work is perfect. Sometime he will go back to Lorraine when the Boches have been driven out. He says: "I like the American soldiers. They have come to protect my country. And I like especially my Godfathers." They are the Army Field Clerks of Section ... General Staff. Two hospital orderlies were killed and 14 persons were injured, of whom 9 were orderlies, four patients and one American Red Cross nurse. No possible doubt exists as to the deliberate character of the raid as the hospital was marked by an emmense white canvas cross on the lawn which has been proved by photographers taken from an airplane to be distinctly visible several thousand feet in the air and seven witnesses agree that the boche aviators came down to with a few hundred feet to make observations before dropping their bombs. The white spots in the photograph show a few of the holes torn in the tent by flying fragments of shrapnel

The American wounded arriving at Dartford Hospital (near London) are a cheerful and optimistic lot of fighters. They come to the base hospitals in England, direct from the battlefield, after receiving first-aid at the casualty clearing stations. The Red Cross meets them as soon as they land on English soil, sees that they are provided with their immediate necessities, and then prepared further for them at their destination. Twenty American women are on duty as Red Cross "visitors" at the Dartford Hospital and they meet every convoy of wounded
