Summary

Alice discusses her work as a home care worker and her union work. She talks about her typical day; the challenges of balancing the needs of her clients with her needs and the needs of her family; the gratification she takes in having a meaningful job; the role of the church and her local community in her life; and the important role active union involvement has played and continues to play in her sense of herself as a worker and a member of an important occupational group.

This interview was done in two parts. The first part was conducted on 11/21/14 at the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 503 office in Portland. The second part was conducted, at Redding's request, on 3/4/15 at the First United Methodist Church in Rainier, Oregon. The interviewee asked to add a few things to the interview.
