Summary

Significance: William and Hannah Gilley came to Baker Island in 1812 from Norwood Cove on Mount Desert Island. Claiming ownership of the island, the Gilleys began the task of establishing a farm and raising their children. Elisha, one of the Gilleys' twelve children, built this house near his parents' house about 1840. A brother, Samuel, built a similar house on Little Cranberry Island near Gilley's Beach.
