Significance: Building 16 (Women's Infirmary) of Logansport State Hospital, formerly Northern Indiana Hospital for the Insane (popularly known as Longcliff Hospital), exhibits a unique roof structural system. A series of steel I-beams extend from the top of a brick central load-bearing wall & tie into modified Howe type steel trusses. The ends rest on perimeter brick load-bearing walls. Designed by Jesse Osborne and constructed in 1929 utilizing patient labor under supervision of the hospital staff, the building initially served as a women's infirmary. A similar building was erected for males.
