Summary
Significance: The old Southern Railroad depot located at Montpelier Station, Virginia is an important, and presently beautifully preserved, example of those depots built by the Southern Railroad Company at the turn of the century in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Situated near the main entrance of the Montpelier Estate, the Montpelier Depot is an example of a turn-of-the-century Southern Railroad Company depot in Virginia and a representation of the segregation period of the overall African-American experience at the Montpelier Estate.
