Small Art Deco Building, Thirteenth & Adams Streets, Decatur, Adams County, IN

description

Summary

Significance: The fact that this little structure, located at a prominent position in the community on the major north-south artery (Rt. 27), is the only building in the area constructed in the "Art Deco" style makes it worthy of recording. Also the fact that this building may soon be torn down, and its pleasant influence on passers-by permanently removed, seems to make recording its presence now imperative. And, just because a building of this style was built in such a small town, whose major styles tend heavily towards the Classics, says something of the far reaching influences of the "Art Deco" style and its meteoric rise to popularity. This we feel should not be forgotten. So we hope to preserve this memory by recording this structure.
