The gambler's ruin /

description

Summary

Peter Thurston develops a mania for gambling and gradually sinks lower and lower until he is ruined. Failing to obtain money from either his wife or his father, Peter becomes a burglar. Sometime after, he breaks into his wife's home and inadvertently causes her death. Meanwhile, his father perfects a machine capable of detecting criminals, which is used to prove Peter's guilt. As Peter is led away, the father recognizes him and realizes that he is responsible for convicting his own son.
