Spectators at the fair in Rutland, Vermont

Some samples (not all) of the children in the "Kindergarten Factory" run by the High Point and Piedmont Hosiery Mills, High Point, N.C. Every child in these photos worked: I saw them at work and I saw them go in to work at 6:30 A.M. and noons and out at 6 P.M. One morning I counted 22 of these little ones (12 years and under) going to work at about 6:15 A.M. Some of them told me their ages: 1 boy said 8 yrs. (worked when he was 7). 1 girl said 10 yrs. (apparently 7). 3 other girls said 10 yrs. 2 boys said 10 yrs. (1 got $3.00 a week). 1 boy said 11 yrs. 2 boys said 12 yrs. (1 said he makes $1. a day). (See also report.) 1353 ----- A Pool Room Branch (Chouteau & Manchester). These boys were playing pool and smoking in the pool room while waiting for papers . The smallest boy is 9 years old and sells until 9 P.M. (See also 1351-1352. 4 P.M.) Location: St. Louis, Missouri
