Provenance: Gift of Mrs. Frances M. Hanover, Oakland, California, 26 Aug. 1984. Niece of Dayton C. Miller, Frances Vienna Miller (b. 1905) was the daughter of Dayton C. Miller's younger brother Alanson P. Miller (1873-1934) and Sarah Frances Metcalf Miller (1873-1929). She married Alton Dole Hanover in 1941.
This is the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Dayton C. Miller's parents, Charles Webster Dewey Miller (1841-1918) and Vienna Pomeroy Miller (1843-1919). Included in the scene are: Dayton C. Miller himself (1866-1941) and his wife, Edith Easton Miller (1872-1942); his three brothers: Alanson Pomeroy Miller (1873-1934), Harlan Dewey Miller (1880-1926), Dewey Harold Miller (1883-1947), and his sister Harriet Kezia Miller Smith (1871-1963), and their respective spouses: Sarah Frances Metcalf Miller (1873-1929), Nell Stone Miller (b. 1882), Ray Wilber Miller (b. 1886), and Dudley Almont Smith (1871-1941). Dayton C. Miller's nephew, Charles Wilber Miller (oldest son of Dewey and Ray Wilber Miller, b. 1909), and his two nieces Marjorie and Frances Miller (daughters of Alanson and Sarah Frances Metcalf Miller, b. 1901 and 1905 respectively) are in the first row.
Condition: Very good condition.

The Dayton C. Miller collection in the Library of Congress, contains nearly 1,700 flutes and other wind instruments, statuary, iconography, books, music, trade catalogs, tutors, patents, and other materials mostly related to the flute. It includes both Western and non-Western examples of flutes from around the world, with at least 460 European and American instrument makers represented. Items in the collection date from the 16th to the 20th century.
