Bedeutung: Nach der University of Iowa ist die Iowa Institution for the Education of the Blind die älteste staatliche Bildungseinrichtung in Iowa. Sein Hauptgebäude ist das älteste aller staatlichen "Wohltätigkeitseinrichtungen" und neben dem alten Kapitol in Iowa City könnte es das älteste noch erhaltene staatliche Institutionsgebäude in Iowa sein.
