Photograph shows William Henry Channing (1810-1884), Unitarian minister, women's rights advocate, writer and Chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives (from 1863-1864). Channing was also one of five director's for the Institution for the Education of Colored Youth, Washington, D.C., incorporated in 1863 by the U.S. Congress as successor to Mytilla Miner's Normal School for Colored Girls.
