The New York World's Fair was a large international exposition held in New York City, United States in 1939-1940. The 1939-1940 World's Fair was themed "The World of Tomorrow" and featured pavilions and exhibits from over 60 countries, displaying the latest innovations in science, technology, transportation, and design. Some of the most famous attractions at the fair included the iconic Trylon and Perisphere, a futuristic city display, and the Futurama exhibit, which gave visitors a glimpse into what life might be like in the year 1960.
Im Jahr 1935, auf dem Höhepunkt der Weltwirtschaftskrise, beschloss eine Gruppe New Yorker Geschäftsleute, eine internationale Ausstellung zu schaffen, um die Stadt und das Land aus der Depression zu befreien. Am 30. April 1939, einem sehr heißen Sonntag, wurde die Messe mit 206.000 Besuchern feierlich eröffnet. Der 30. April fiel mit dem 150. Jahrestag der Amtseinführung George Washingtons als erster Präsident der Vereinigten Staaten in Lower Manhattan zusammen. Obwohl viele Pavillons und andere Einrichtungen für diese Eröffnung noch nicht ganz fertig waren, wurde sie mit Pomp und großer Feier eröffnet.
