Gordon Bennett International Balloon Trophy goes to U.S. Army Air Corps. The Gordon Bennett International Balloon Trophy, property of the National Aeronautic Association by virtue of three victories by American Balloonists, was today presented to Assistant Secretary of War for Aviation F. Trubee Davison for the Army Air Corps for a year by Orville Wright, secretary of the Contest Committee of the Association An Army pilot, Captain W.G. Kemper, secured the trophy for America by winning the race from Detroit last year. The Collier trophy is awarded to Uncle Sam's Department of Commerce for 1928. The Collier trophy, which is awarded annually by the National Aeronautic Association to the person or organization for the "greatest achievement in aviation in America, the value of which has been demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year" was presented to the United States Department of Commerce today by President Coolidge. The Aeronautics Branch of the Department of Commerce received the trophy because of its valuable contribution to the furtherance of civil aeronautics. In the picture left to right, can be seen Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Aviation, William McCracken (right) receiving the trophy from President Coolidge [White House, Washington, D.C.]

U.S. Flyers win Mackay Award. Washington, D.C., May 8. Nine officers and enlisted men of the U.S. Air Corps were today presented with the Mackay trophy for 1936 as a reward for the heroic flight under unfavorable weather conditions from Langley Field, Virginia, to Allecan, Mich., last August. The trophy, which is awarded annually for the most meritorious air plane flight of the year, was presented to the flyers at Bolling Field, D.C., by Maj. General Malin Craig, U.S. Chief of Staff. Modell zum silbernen Jubiläum der kommerziellen Luftfahrt. Washington, D.C., 29. Dezember. Am Neujahrstag jährt sich die kommerzielle Luftfahrt zum 25. Mal. Die erste Passagierfluglinie wurde zwischen St. Petersburg und Tampa, Florida, eingerichtet, wobei Tony Jannus, ein Junge aus Washington, D.C., das Flugzeug steuerte. Paul E. Garber vom US National Museum hat dieses Modell des ursprünglichen benoistischen Flugzeugs, das auf dem ersten Flug verwendet wurde, für die nationale Flugzeugsammlung, die er leitet, gesichert. Das Modell wird dem Museum offiziell von Beamten des Staates Florida auf der Jahrestagung der National Aeronautic Association vom 15. bis 17. Januar in St. Louis, der Stadt, in der das ursprüngliche Flugzeug hergestellt wurde, präsentiert.

Als Belohnung für ihre Entwicklung und Vorführung des ursprünglichen automatischen Landegeräts für Flugzeuge erhielten die Kapitäne Carl J. Crane und George V. Holloman vom U.S. Army Air Corps heute von Kriegsminister Harry H. Woodring die MacKay-Trophäe für das Jahr 1937 überreicht. Die Goldmedaillen, Sinnbild der Trophäe, wurden den Flyers gleichzeitig überreicht. Von links nach rechts: Charles F.
