Photograph shows a woman (Columbia) holding a document (the Declaration of Emancipation?) standing between two kneeling slaves. The slave to her left, a man, holds a U.S. flag; the slave to her right, a woman, is draped in the U.S. flag.

"Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1863, by John Sowle [sic], in the clerk's office of the District Court for the District of Massachusetts." printed on front of the mount.
"Will send the other card in a day or two" written in ink on back of the mount.
