Caption continues: In memory of Ebenezer Bell of the 88th Pa Reg. Company who died at Laurel Hill, Va. May the 5th 18[76]4. A brave and gallant soldier and true patriot. His toils are past his work is done, / And he is fully blest. / He fought the fight the victory won, / And enters into rest.
In this caption the name of the deceased, the Company he fought with, the place and date of death are all inscribed in ink. Also, the first three numerals of the year are printed on the certificate as "187", the "7" is overwritten with a "6".
