description

Резюме

Photographic survey of the Caucasus and Black Sea area. Includes scenic views of rivers, mountains, valleys, waterfalls, and mineral springs. Many images document a variety of flora (fruits, vegetables, trees, and flowers) growing on plantations, in the wild, and in the Sukhumi Botanical Garden. Includes views of cities, towns, and villages in the Caucases, the Mugan Steppe, and along the Black Sea coast. Religious facilities including monasteries, mosques, and churches are documented along with castles, palaces, fortresses, and dachas. Several images show industrial and agricultural facilities (tea plantations and factories, cotton and lumber mills, apiaries, a dairy, and a mineral water warehouse). Includes portraits of ethnic types (Tatars, Georgians, Armenians, Kurds, Dagestanis, Greeks) and one self-portrait of Prokudin-Gorskiĭ posed beside the Karolitskhali River.

Hand-written Russian captions accompany most prints.
Digitized images of items and album pages display with their associated catalog records in the Prints & Photographs Online Catalog.
Forms part of: Sergeĭ Mikhaĭlovich Prokudin-Gorskiĭ collection.
