The prettiest knees in Greece. Contrary to general appearances this is not Nijincky's troupe of Russian dancers, but the royal body guard of King Alexander lined up for inspection outside the Palace in Athens. They are picked for their bravery and general physical appearance. Good knees count for a lot as any other kind would not go well with the uniform. Far from being comic operish in the Greek eyes, this Uniform known as the Fustanella, is considered an honor. Only the crack regiments wear the tassled cap, shirt and shoes with Pom poms. One of these guards in full regalia was assigned to the American Red Cross Headquarters, as a special mark of courtesy to the American relief effort in Greece
