A cowgirl, one of several wranglers who herd horses in the daily "jingle," or horse roundup, at the A Bar A Ranch, a guest ranch near the town of Riverside in Carbon County, Wyoming. There are conflicting explanations for the term "jingle" in this context. One of the most accepted is that it refers to the jingling attachments to cowhands' spurs, the sound of which, at full gallop, helped encourage wild-horse herds to get a move on in a certain direction

A recently born lamb at the Ladder Livestock Ranch's sheepherding operation during lambing season near Dixon, Wyoming. Ladder sheephands also spend much of the year tending to the flock much higher in the Wyoming mountains. And the ranch, which is based on the Wyoming side of the Colorado border, runs a separate cattle operation literally just across the line in Colorado

Chest-high boots called waders hang from the A Bar A ranch's fish shack, puckishly called the Liars' Lair, fishers are prone to exaggerating the size of fish caught, and especially those that got away, on the guest ranch near Riverside, Wyoming. They're upside down to drain the few whose previous users waded too deep, and to keep the rain out

It's spring calving, or birthing, season at Big Creek cattle ranch on the Colorado border, near the towns of Riverside and Encampment, in Carbon County, Wyoming. One heifer, a young female cow that had not previously produced a calf, is beginning the process of doing just that, delivering the amniotic sac or "bag of waters" protecting the fetus. She would immediately be surrounded by other cattle, who formed a protective ring around her (and hiding her from intrusive photography) during the rest of the birth
