White House gold piano replaced with new instrument. Washington, D.C., Dec. 10. The gold piano which has occupied its place in the east room of the White House for years is to be replaced with a new one. It is the gift of Theodore Steinway. The old one will be placed in the National Museum. Mr. Steinway's gift, which was played by Josef Hofmann at the acceptance ceremony, is of maple, decorated in gold, with legs in the shape of eagles, 12/10/38
