Senator Joseph O'Mahoney, Co-chairman of the Committee, asking about the relation of price and production costs, received from Randell in reply, 'We follow the price set by the leader and pray that we will make a profit.' Coe denied that his firm set prices for others to follow. O'Mahoney mentioned that certain beryllium allow products had increased in price when raw materials were cheap, and Coe countered that his firm had lost from $10,000 to $20,000 annually over a period of years while they were developing beryllium processes

Denounces Black-Connery bill. Washington, D.C. June 9. The pending Black-Connery Wage and Hour Bill was bitterly denounced today by Harvey Willson, Manager of the National Upholstery and Drapery Textile Association, when he appeared before the House and Senate Labor Committee. Pictureing the bill as a long step towrd complete governemtn control of industry and labor such as exists in European countries, Willson expressed the opinion that it would wholly unworkable as a law and would only result in confusions in industry far exceeding that connected with the attempt to administer the late NRA. 6937

Science and research. Mineral prospecting. Intensity of the earth's magnetic field, something a mining engineer needs to know if he is looking for vital metals under the crust of the earth, may be measured by the horizontal magnetometer and the vertical magnetometer shown here. Three engineering students employ geophysical methods, which they will use after they complete their training courses, for war jobs in the minerals industry or commission in the armed forces. Their knowledge will be applied to airplane detection and anti-submarine warfare. Most of the students are now in the enlisted reserve. Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado
