Packages for prisoners of war and internees. A Red Cross Canteen worker, Miss Mary Dougherty, inspects a Red Cross food package going to an American prisoner of war. Packages like this are sent regularly from International Red Cross headquarters in Geneva to American prisoners of war and interned civilians held by Germany and Italy. One a week goes to each American prisoner of war whose capture and location have been reported and one every two weeks to each interned civilian. Twenty thousand such packages were sent to the Far East on the neutral diplomatic exchange ship Gripsholm last June, together with one million cigarettes and other supplies for American prisoners and internees in Japan, occupied China and the Philippines. Much larger quantities are now on the Gripsholm pending final clearance with the Japanese for her sailing on a second trip

Lieutenant Mary Lohr, Army nurse, of Greenburg, Pennsylvania, recently awarded the Royal Blue Ribbon for gallant service at Bataan, and Lieutenant Robert L. Laub of Richland, Missouri, who received the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism as torpedo bomber pilot in the Battle of Midway, will speak to war workers in about 1800 war plants on December 7. They were selected by the War Production Drive Headquarters of the War Production Board (WPB) to participate with Honorable Joseph C. Grew, former ambassador to Japan, in personal messages for transcription as a feature of Pearl Harbor Day observance, which is being held under auspices of war production Labor-Management Committees

Packages for prisoners of war and internees. A Red Cross Canteen worker, Miss Mary Dougherty, inspects a Red Cross food package going to an American prisoner of war. Packages like this are sent regularly from International Red Cross headquarters in Geneva to American prisoners of war and interned civilians held by Germany and Italy. One a week goes to each American prisoner of war whose capture and location have been reported and one every two weeks to each interned civilian. Twenty thousand such packages were sent to the Far East on the neutral diplomatic exchange ship Gripsholm last June, together with one million cigarettes and other supplies for American prisoners and internees in Japan, occupied China and the Philippines.
