Four Freedoms and Arsenal of Democracy posters. Assembly workers are nearly ready to put the final section of the huge 15 x 30 foot photmontage The Four Freedoms in place. On the other side of the scaffolding was the Arsenal of Democracy panel, equal in size. The two were displayed in Defense Square, Washington for a month beginning November 7, 1941. Designed for the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) by the eminent poster artist Jean Carlu, they were shown first in New York and after the Washington showing went on a tour of many cities throughout the country

Ready to go is the huge 15 x 30 foot Arsenal of Democracy montage deseigned by Jean Carlu, eminent poster artist, for exhibition at the National and Civilian Defense Exposition in New York and in many other cities throughout the country. The panel is divided into 2 1/2 foot squares. The artist seems pleased with his work, which is only the second time this particular montage technique has been used. Behind him are figures from the Four Freedoms panel, which equal in size to the Arsenal of Democracy. Both panels were prepared for the Office of Emergency Management (OEM)

Pickwick Dam. Control room at Pickwick powerhouse with equipment for first two units in place. All principal lighting is indirect to avoid reflections on instrument faces. Recessed lights along rear wall illuminate back of main panel. Ceiling is acoustic tile; floor, linoleum. Series of glass panels in back of operator seated at desk permits view of generator hall such as appears on K 1849. Also, by means of a balcony visitors can inspect control room through these panels

"Open the doors," says Jean Carlu, eminent poster artist, to Manager Sloan of the National and Civilian Defense Exposition at New York's Grand Central Palace. In the background is part of the 15 x 30 foot poster Carlu designed for the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). This is a partial view of the living room showing the dinette corner with its collapsible table and chairs. The other end of the living room, not shown here, contains a studio couch which sleeps two. In addition, the trailer house contains a fully equipped kitchenette, a bedroom with built-in double bed and a large amount of storage space, and a bathroom. Walls are of plywood in natural finish, ceiling is plywood painted white, floor is plywood covered with inlaid linoleum. The square panel in the center of the ceiling is a ventilator which can be cranked open in summer. All windows are of the sliding type to occupy minimum space and to minimize the use of critical hardware

Houses for Britain. Partition panel going into place in model house erected at Scott Circle, Washington, D.C. by the the Federal Public Housing Authority. It is planned to ship this type of prefabricated, temporary emergency dwelling to Great Britain under lend-lease. Materials have been allotted by  War Production Board to the FEA for 30,000 of these units, and the Federal Public Housing Authority of the National Housing Agency will undertake the procurement of the houses. Bids were to be in by March 5, 1945

Four Freedoms and Arsenal of Democracy posters. Assembly workers have nearly finished setting up the huge 15 x 30 foot photomontage The Four Freedoms. On the other side of the scaffolding was the Arsenal of Democracy panel, equal in size. The two were displayed in Defense Square, Washington for a month beginning November 7, 1941. Designed for the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) by the eminent poster artist Jean Carlu, they were shown first in New York and after the Washington showing went on a tour of many cities throughout the nation

Four Freedoms and Arsenal of Democracy posters. Ready to go is the huge 15 x 30 foot Arsenal of Democracy montage deseigned by Jean Carlu, eminent poster artist, for exhibition at the National and Civilian Defense Exposition in New York and in many other cities throughout the country. The panel is divided into 2 12 foot squares. The artist seems pleased with his work, which is only the second time this particular montage technique has been used. Behind him are figures from the Four Freedoms panel, which equal in size to the Arsenal of Democracy. Both panels were prepared for the Office of Emergency Management (OEM)
