Production. B-17F heavy bombers. A woman worker at the Long Beach, California, plant of Douglas Aircraft Company, spot welds wing skin sheets for a B-17F heavy bomber. The welding machine is suspended over sheets which move on a platform below her. Better known as the "Flying Fortress," the B-17F is a later model of the B-17, which distinguished itself in action in the South Pacific, over Germany and elsewhere. It is a long range, high altitude, heavy bomber, with a crew of seven to nine men and with armament sufficient to defend itself on daylight missions

Production. B-24 bombers and C-87 transports. A two-girl riveting crew putting the skin on a nose extension of a big consolidated transport plane in a Western plant. The riveter working from the outside was a home girl before she took up war work. The helper, bucking the rivets from the inside of the nose, kept house for two brothers who have since entered service. The plane they are helping to make will carry one of the greatest human or cargo loads of any plane now in mass production.

Production. Aircraft engines. A skilled mechanic and determined war worker, Zed W. Robinson, proves that skin pigment bears no relation to efficiency of work. He's one of many Negroes employed in a large Midwest aircraft plant in skilled and semi-skilled capacity. Tightening bolts of a cylinder barrel during the final build-up of an airplane engine is one of the jobs which, until fairly recently, was closed to members of his race.
