Me and the old gent. "The old gent and myself," only two-man labor-management war production drive committee in the United States. Jake Sparling, left, sixty-year-old head of Sparling Pulley Manufacturing Company, Bay City, Michigan, and Percy Fogelsonger, seventy-nine-year-old ex-lumberjack, have been working fifteen hours a day, seven days a week, for eighteen months. With no other help, they produced 18,000 steel flanges for war equipment, and earned a citation from Donald Nelson, putting them at the top of the list of all plants formally enrolled in the war production drive

Conversion. Floor waxer plant. Now making machine gun cover plates, this machine was converted from a line shaft drive to motor drive when a small Eastern manufacturing company converted its product from floor waxers to small parts for war equipment. Unable to purchase new equipment for his defense work, the owner bought second-hand equipment and remodelled it. Delivery of first orders was made thirty days after contract, an amazingly short time considering that conversion of the machinery took two weeks of it. Floorola Products Inc., York, Pennsylvania

De Land pool. Babcock airplane plant. Interior of the Babcock plant at De Land, Florida. When the Japanese struck Pearl Harbor, this was a dormant airplane plant. It was revived as a community project. Businessmen of De Land pooled their machines and resources, used this plant as a prime contractor to obtain war work, and now are producing over two-million dollars worth of war equipment in it. These motor repair racks, being turned out on a production schedule engineers termed "impossible" two months ago, are being built by former clerks, auto-mechanics and small shop operators who were caught by the impact of the war on their peacetime businesses
