A war of words. The war in South Russia is fought as much with tongue and pen as with sword and rifle. Each army has its well equipped staff of propagandists who follow close in the rear of the fighting troops with posters and literature telling of the wonderful results that will be gained through a support of their army. Special army railroad cars are equipped with propaganda material. This picture shows one of the cars of this type used by the Volunteer Army. When the American Red Cross wished to send two car loads of medical supplies into a recently captured town the only transportation they could get was to couple their relief cars to the propaganda train. It went into the city ahead of food or ammunition trains, for successful propaganda is one of the most important parts of warfare according to the Russian mind

The latest in eye shields--for desert warfare. A shortage of non-inflammable celluloid has prompted the Union of South Africa government to utilize old photographic negatives to make eye shields needed for use in desert warfare. The original images in the shield can be seen by turning the picture upside down. The emulsion is washed off the negatives to make the shields transparent. More than a million such shields have been produced to protect United Nations soldier's eyes from wind, sand and dust. Margaret Bucci of Washington, D.C., demonstrated the shield
