1333 N Street, Northwest (Rowhouse), Washington, District of Columbia, DC

description

Summary

Significance: 1333 N Street, NW, was designed by architect C.A. Didden in 1883 as one of a block of four identical brick rowhouses constructed for landowner A. Heitmuller. (See HABS DC-784, HABS DC-785, and HABS DC-786). These rowhouses are typical examples of late 19th century D.C. rowhouse design. 1333 N Street, NW, which was occupied by members of the Heitmuller family until the 1960s, retains many of its original interior features. New construction will abut the rear wall of the locally significant rowhouse, which contributes to the significance of the Greater Fourteenth Street Historic District. The new structure will house an expanded facility for Luther Place Church's N Street Village, a social services program for formerly homeless women. The facility, which is partially funded by a Congressional Special Purpose Demonstration Grant, will also include affordable rental apartments.
