A rabbit vendor hangs rabbits on a hook as the store owner's son looks on.
Summary
Forms part of a group of images documenting John and Joe's Meat Market.
The man who delivered the rabbits carried them into the butcher shop from his van, which was parked directly in front of the store, on 21st Avenue. He selected the rabbits from containers set on the floor of the van. The rabbits were slaughtered and gutted, but otherwise intact (heads, feet, tails, fur, all were still part of the carcasses). He carried the rabbits into the shop in small bunches of 5 or 6, and hung them on a hook inside the shop, where they were weighed. The rabbits were then placed in the refrigerated room, and the vendor returned to the truck to fetch several more. Vince Miraglia, the owner's son, handled the interaction with the rabbit vendor, and accompanied him out to the van once or twice.
