American RC convalescent home for nurses at Putney, a London suburb. Leaving the Convalescent Home, Colebrook Lodge, for a spin over the thousand acres of health and common just outside the door of the estate. The high thick hedges and cunningly-planted shrubbery are an excellent example of the intensive floriculture practiced so successfully in London's suburbs. The brilliant bush which lights up the dark masses of the hedge is goldern privet, while nearby is holly, the two-toned kind growing by the side of the familiar Christmas variety

A corner of the property at Plessis-Piquet, near Robinson, in the outskirts of Paris. Now the Edward L. Trudeau Tuberculosis Sanitorium of the American Red Cross. This chateau has numberous buildings, fruit trees and gardens, thanks to which the patients will not only be better fed, but in cases where they are fit to do so and wish to undertake it they will be able to do some light gardening in the open

Medical and RC staff at the "Florence Nightingale" RC Hospital, which is the American soldiers' name for the camp hospital at a big American camp somewhere in England. The hospital gets this name from the fact that it is located just across the valley from Florence Nightingale's old home. From left to right, Capt. Knox, ARC dentist, Lt. Taylor, U.S.A., Capt. Home and fruit stand of the Cavicchio family. 64 Bedford Street. Somerville, Massachusetts. Both the mother and Mary, 10 years old, worked off and on all day out here with the soot from the passing engines dropping so fast it had to be shaken off. A new tunnel is being dug in front of the house. Mother and Mary tend the fruit stand while crocheting and the work is thrown over the railing and fence near by. Their garments are filthy and grimy. 'Sunny Brook", the Hospital inaugurated by King Edward the 7th, for the use of the British some years ago. This was taken over by the American Red Cross to house refugees from the devastated districts of the North. This home is situated at Cannes, France. The photographer hurried out to get pictures of these devils, all over 80 years of age, who keep the home always in a turmoil of aged excitement with their tricks. But notwithstanding, the charm of the beautiful climate, with orange and olive trees, palms and roses blossoming on Christmas Day, they long to get back to their own homes and have no intention of dying of old age until they can see the North again, if it keeps them alive for another generation

Red Cross Club for American Nurses in London. The Drawing-Room, an immense room of quaint shape. Its beautiful parquetry floor, kept in a high state of polished perfection, positively implores to be danced on. The long windows on the Grosvenor place, side opening on to a balcony, which looks straight out over the grounds of Buckingham Palace, where King George and Queen Mary may often be seen walking about

The ARC Convalescent Home for Nurses, near London, has been of the utmost value during the recent epidemic of influenza, which has not spared the nurses. It has been practically useful in serving as a home for a few days in the case of nurses who had just a touch of the influenza on their way across, and who were able to rest up and recuperate in the homelike and pleasant building at Putney on the Thames. The Home has been full up since the epidemic started

Village women from Dartford, near London, visit American soldiers in new hospital just opened by American army there. Few of the visitors come empty-handed. They bring little gifts of all kinds for the soldiers, and the Red Cross usually commandeer their services, also for the distribution of comfort bags and other Red Cross material to distant parts of the grounds. All these things are carried about in "hospital wagons", which are sometimes pilled by the young women visitors, and sometimes by the convalescent Americans
