Evergreen Plantation, Reserve, St. John the Baptist Parish, LA
Summary
1993 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Third Place
Significance: Evergreen's survival is an asset to both Louisiana's and the United States' preservation of history. Evergreen stands out among all gems along River Road because it is one of the few remaining plantation complexes which still possesses a substantial amount of supporting buildings, most remarkable, the twenty-two intact slave quarters. The bittersweet past supports each building's significance.
