description

Summary

Significance: This single story structure, completed on December 31, 1907, and costing $3,165.00, stood near Rogers Road in the complex of quartermaster buildings. It had brick walls in running bond, a slate gabled roof, and rested on a foundation of limestone and concrete. Based on standard building plan 59U in the Quartermaster General's office, the workshop measured 28 feet wide by 70 feet long. The front entrance of the structure was on the south side and consisted of a double doorway, on either side of which was a double hung window. On the gable was one single sash window. At the north side of the building were two double hung windows. On each of the east and west sides were two double doors and five double hung windows. Also on the east side was a single door. All doors and windows had segmental arches of from 2- to 3-courses. All windows had plain lug limestone sills. In front of the double doors were brick aprons, and iron bumpers stood at the bottom of the entrances. The double doors were paneled with diagonally placed boards. On the roof, one chimney and one ventilator straddled the ridge, while another chimney protruded from the east side of the roof, which was adorned with decorative rafter tails.
