Summary

Significance: Building T-1081 is a Hospital Mess, Type HM-336, one of three examples of this type of mess facility constructed in 1942 in the hospital area (Note: Building T-1070 was destroyed by fire in 1991). These buildings served the cafeteria needs of both the enlisted men and ambulatory patients who lived on either side of South Ninth Avenue. Building T-1081, at the west side of the hospital area, could accommodate 336 soldiers or patients at one sitting.
