Lawrence Freeman interview conducted by Candacy Taylor, 2012-08-15

description

Summary

Freeman has been doing hair for about forty years. His clients include Farrah Fawcett, Halston, Debbie Harry, Olympia Dukakis, and Eartha Kitt. His salon is in Provincetown, Massachusetts, a small town in the north of Cape Cod that has been a vacation mecca for gay people. Freeman talks about concepts of beauty and ethnicity as defined by our culture and the challenges of being a young gay teen raised in an abusive household. I photographed him doing hair on his client, who is a drag queen.

Recorded in Provincetown, Massachusetts, August 15, 2012.
