Summary
Significance: The Pennsylvania truss bridge spans the Monongahela River between Brownsville and West Brownsville. The bridge is heavily constructed of built-up members and eye-bars, and is a significant landmark in Brownsville. Built jointly by Fayette and Washington counties, the bridge was considered an engineering marvel in its time. It was built along the route of old U.S. Route 40, the former National Road.
