These pupils - one 13 years old, one 12, one 11 and two 10 are in the second grade of the Rockwood Place School, December 1. The age in this grade should be 7 and 8 years. The teacher said the retardation of these pupils was almost entirely due to their absences on account of beet work. Location: Fort Collins, Colorado / L.W. Hine.

Dams under construction. Watts Bar Dam, shown here under construction, has a semi-outdoors type powerhouse with an enormous gantry crane (to the right of the picture) for installation and removal of units. The project is further distinguished by a control building which is entirely removed from the hydro plant, being located some 120 feet higher on top of a steep cliff and with direct connection to the switchyard behind. The windowless left wing of the control building houses the control room; the tower-like structure in the back accomodates air conditioning, restrooms, etc. The glass wall, upper level, contains the reception room with a broad semi-circular overlook terrace, the story below the terrace devoted to offices

Power and conservation. Chickamauga Dam, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Insulators and bus wires in the switchyard of the TVA's Chickamauga Dam, located near Chattanooga, 471 miles above the mouth of the Tennessee River. The dam has an authorized power installation of 81,000 kilowatts, which can be increased to a possible ultimate of 108,000 kilowatts. The reservoir at the dam adds 377,000 acre feet of water to controlled storage on the Tennessee River system. The power that passes through this switchyard serves many useful domestic, agricultural and industrial uses
