Summary

Photograph shows a bust portrait a woman facing front, looking slightly left, wearing dark cap and gingham checked dress. Probably Maria Miller Woodhull Hall (1831-1913) of Jamestown, New York, who married William Charles James Hall (1828-1887) a major of the 23d U.S. Colored Troops. The couple had a son named William Hall who died in 1864.

Photographer not identified.

The text "Mrs. Maj. Hall 1864" is handwritten in graphite across the bottom of the photo. "Mrs. W.C.J. Hall Jamestown, N.Y. 1864" written on back of photo mount.

Photograph is housed in an album. Album page has decorative gold borders framing the print.
