Rural rehabilitation, Tulare County, California. In 1936 this family was on relief. With a Farm Security Administration (FSA) loan of seven hundred and eighty dollars, they were able to purchase and install an irrigating pump for the vineyard, a team, and the balance gave them subsistence and operating expenses for the first grape season

Pete Trombetta (and Padrone in the background) is 10 years of age, working his 6th season. He is the carrier for the Trombetta family. The tray of berries weighing between 25 and 30 lbs., and so long as the family is working in the fields, and as fast as they pick a tray, little Pete hurries off to the farmer. Conservation. Scrap iron and steel. A building truckload of discarded automobiles stripped of all usable parts and non-ferrous materials is delivered to a scrap iron dealer's processing plant in Baltimore, Maryland. This steel will be baled in huge hydraulic presses and sent to steel mills to feed the ever hungry furnaces now turning out steel for the national defense production program
