Libro de cifra de vihuela manuscrito espanol de principio del siglo XVIII

description

Summary

Manuscript (late 17 th century).
Title from verso of last leaf.
A collection of compositions for vihuela, consisting chiefly of dances, and marches of Spanish and French origin, but including also a number of recitados and coplas with Spanish text. The notation employed throughout is the "cifra del Arpa" described by Lucas Ruiz de Ribayaz in his Luz y norte musical (Madrid; 1672, 1677). Two of the dances in the manuscript (the "Xacaras dela costa" and the "Paradetas") are little more than transpositions of examples from this work; a third (the "Marizapalos") appears in the Instrucción de música of Gasper Sanz (Zaragoça; 1674,1697) in the Poema harmónico compuesto de varias cifras por el temple de le guitarra española of Francisco Querau (Madrid, 1694), arranged for the guitar (cf. also Pedrell, Cancionero musical popular español, t. 4, p. 72-73). With the exception of the composition on leaf 26b headed "Marin" (i.e. José Marin y Gracián, 1619-1699?) the entire contents of the manuscript is anonymous.
LC copy: title page imperfect.
Tablature notation. (language)
