Phillips Farmhouse, 1725 North & 1700 East (country roads), Urbana, Champaign County, IL
Summary
1991 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Honorable Mention
Significance: This site is the first settled area in Champaign County and contains 2 buildings over 100 years old. The Philip's Farmhouse was erected c. 1852. Construction of the 2 story log home is of squared-off logs which is different from the normal round logs. Later additions (construction dates unknown) of the front porch, kitchen and bathroom, and the clapboards brought the house into a character similar to other farm homes. In March of 1990 fire damaged the home destroying the kitchen addition, roof, and part of the second floor. The building was razed in 1991 and the logs were to be used in the reconstruction of a log home.
