The group of small cities along U.S. Highway 550 from Ouray up to Ridgway up to Montrose are "quilting country" in Colorado. There are at least three quilting societies in the area. This quilt, titled "Here Kitty, Kitty," designed, appliqued and quilted by Carolyn Ray of Ridgway, is an example of the work done in the area. The "kitty" depicted is a full-sized bobcat, which Ms. Ray photographed as it played for more than two hours on her patio. She drew the quilt pattern based on the photograph, hand-appliqued the cat and background snow, and used a sewing machine to add texture to the cat's fur
