Safe clothes for women war workers. Woman's crowning glory is distinctly out of place in a machine shop--and decidedly dangerous besides, unless completely tacked away beneath a safety hat. Eunice Kimball, with hair dangerously disheveled, poses in Bendix Aviation Plant to illustrate how the safety-conscious woman worker will not look. Bendix Aviation Plant, Brooklyn, New York

Safe clothes for women war workers. Inappropriately dressed for a war plant job, Eunice Kimball is interviewed by Earl Metz, Bendix Aviation employment manager. Mr. Metz tells her that though her application may show her fitness for the job, her clothes are completely unfit for it. Those open-toed sandals would be no protection against falling tools or other heavy objects; her fuzzy sweater would catch in machines; and her jewelry would be a constant menace against moving machine parts. "You're hired," he tells Eunice, "but we'll have to put you into a safe uniform before you even enter the shop." Bendix Aviation Plant, Brooklyn, New York

Women in industry. Aircraft motor workers. A million dollar baby, not in terms of money but in her value to Uncle Sam, twenty-one-year-old Eunice Hancock, erstwhile five-and-ten-cent store employee, operates a compressed-air grinder in a Midwest aircraft motor plant. With no previous experience, Eunice quickly mastered the techniques of her war job and today is turning out motor parts with speed and skill. Note protective mask and visor, two vital safety accessories

Safe clothes for women war workers. A closeup of Eunice's new uniform reveals one of its most important safety factors: the tight-buttoning trouser ankles which prelude the possibility of a loose trouser's catching in moving machinery. Note also the sturdily built, comfortable safety shoes, with box toe which helps protect the wearer from falling objects. Bendix Aviation Plant, Brooklyn, New York

Safe clothes for women workers. Illustrating what the well-dressed women in search of a war job should NOT wear, pretty Eunice Kimball, Bendix Aviation worker, pauses at the entrance to the plant employment office where potential workers are interviewed. Though clothes may not make the woman, they ARE an indication of qualifications for a job, and Eunice's sweater, high-heeled and open-toed slippers, jewelry and loose hair-do are not improving her chances of employment. To contrast the inappropriateness of her costume, note trimly-dressed Alice Tripp, Bendix guard. Bendix Aviation Plant, Brooklyn, New York
