When Mrs. Woolslayer said "I'd like you to try a piece of my cake," the welder and the Army Sergeant forgot all about the war and fighting and production, and embarked on a Sunday afternoon gossip session the like of which you'll find in Iowa, Kentucky, Oregon or Vermont. As American as baseball, the Sunday afternoon visit is a friendly and democratic means of relaxation, common to soldier, worker, bank president and schoolchild alike.
