The 1844, trapezoidal Courier Building in Syracuse, New York, housed one of the city's first newspapers, was a Moose Lodge for many decades, and was eventually foreclosed upon and left to deteriorate. It was the site of Daniel Webster's 1851 "Syracuse Speech" in which he equated resistance to the Fugitive Slave Law with treason.
