Hurley inaugurates construction work at tomb of unknown soldier. Secretary of War Patrick J. Hurley broke the ground to start construction of approaches to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetary. Plans for the work were selected as the result of a nationwide competition and the $416,000 project was begun at this time for the purpose of relieving unemployment in the vicinity of Washington, Left to right in the photograph: Col.
