Map depicts significant story on pickup in American industry. Washington, D.C. March 30. Tow lines on this chart hanging in the office of Isador Lubin, Commissioner of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, tell a significant story of the pickup in American Industry since 1933. Mr. Lubin points to line no. 1 which represents the consumers or nondurable goods industries (food, clothing, etc.) it began to climb in 1933 and has been on the upgrade ever since. Line no. 2 represents durable goods or heavy industry (steel building materials, machinery). It was hardest hit by the depression, lagged far behind even during most of 1936. But line no. 2 is going almost straight up. By March 1, it has attained a level almost parallel with consumers goods. This means that for the first time since 1929, payrolls in vital heavy industries are once again in a normal relation to payrolls in the consumer industries.

Labor leaders attend Mother Jones funeral. Men high in the ranks of labor circles took part in the last rites for "Mother" Jones, 100 year-old labor crusader. Standing in the middle of the group of three at the right is William N. Doak, newly appointed Secretary of Labor. The casket is being borne from St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Washington, where services were held, after which the body was sent to Mount Olivet, Ill., to be buried beside five of her "boys" slain there years ago in one of the many labor wars in which she participated. This was one of the last requests of the militant laborite, whose full name was Mrs. Mary Harris Jones but who was known simply as "Mother" by her thousands of "boys" throughout the country. 12/3/30

Denounces Black-Connery bill. Washington, D.C. June 9. The pending Black-Connery Wage and Hour Bill was bitterly denounced today by Harvey Willson, Manager of the National Upholstery and Drapery Textile Association, when he appeared before the House and Senate Labor Committee. Pictureing the bill as a long step towrd complete governemtn control of industry and labor such as exists in European countries, Willson expressed the opinion that it would wholly unworkable as a law and would only result in confusions in industry far exceeding that connected with the attempt to administer the late NRA. 6/9/37
