Last of the N.R.A. Washington, D.C., Oct. 26. Mrs. Mildred S. Steinmetz, who started in 1933 as Filing Department Chief with 135 assistants, is now the sole chief of the defunct National Recovery Administration. In comparison to 5400 employees on NRW payroll at one time, Miss Steinmetz has to get along with only seven assistants to help her care for half an acre of filing cabinets packed to the limit with 40,000,000 pieces of correspondence, reports, studies and other data. From time to time, universities, libraries, newspapers, industries, and nearly every department of the government call on these files for information

Mystery' employee appears before S.E.C. Washington, D.C., May 24. Ben Greay, so-called 'mystery' employee of the Associated Gas and Electric Co., pictured as he arrived at the Securities and Exchange Commission today for questioning. Grey, who was on the utility's payroll at $5,000 a month for 11 months, told the S.E.C. that the White House made an appointment for him to see Frank R. McNinch, then head of the Federal Power Commission. He would not say who at the White House arranged the appointment but did not admit that he spent an hour with McNinch and told him that Associated Gas and Electric Co. would be willing to spend as much as $150,000,000 for new construction if tax liens would be lifted temporarily so the company could refund certain securities. He testified he also met with Ben Cohen and with late Herman Oliphant, Treasury Counsel. He said Secretary of Treasury Morgenthau refused him an interview

Auto manufacturers send representative to tell of Labor Act's 'glaring weaknesses.' Washington, D.C., June 27. The automobile manufacturers' associations, represented by William J. Cronin, its secretary, told the Senate Education and Labor Committee that the present Wagner Labor Act is surrounded by 'glaring weaknesses.' Reviewing sit-down strikes, he said that General Motors plants had alone had 40,000 workers idle and had a payroll reduction of more than $10,000,000 as a result of sit-down strikes. He recommended amendments to allow workers to choose bargaining agents without interference, and a clause to make both parties of agreements equally liable for violation. He is shown here pointing out enlarged clippings from the Detroit news which reproduced enlarged 'mugs' from police files to show certain leaders of automobile labor to have criminal records
