4:00 P.M. Making lace collars at home (usually in kitchen). Mrs. Vencique, 309 E. 110th St., working with baby asleep in lap. Her sister, Tessie Amendola, 15 years old, works all the time. Some days she says she makes over $1.00 a day. At times only $2.00 a week. Been working at it three years. One of them was making lace for a contractor, Marchina, 207 E. 109th St., top floor (in an old dwelling). The other was making lace for factory, P. Cappellino, 401 E. 116th St. Husband is plasterer and "works some."  Location: New York, New York (State)

Schoots Court with Senate building in background. Four very small dark rooms rent for fifteen and eighteen dollars per month with water and privy in yard. It used to rent for six and eight dollars. Frank Coles and his friend are sitting on the bench He was a cement plasterer but has been on relief during the past year. He has frequent heart attacks and his feet and ankles are all swollen. Doctor advises a chicken and lamb diet, no pork or beef, but he doesn't even have money to buy fuel. He can't get waited on in a clinic or get to one. He waited from before eleven until four p.m. but still could not see a doctor. He has been in Washington since 1906

6 P.M. Francesco Forzaro, 313 E. 107th St., N.Y. Fifty-five year old man adding a little to income by making feathers. Can make about one dollar a week. Works by dim lamp-light in dark rooms. Is cheerful too. His 17 year old son helped him at this, but has just gone to work as an apprentice to plasterer.  Location: New York, New York (State)
