Film prexy defends practice of "block booking." Washington, D.C., April 6. Sidney R. Kent, President of the 20th Century Fox Film Corp., testifying before the Senate Interstate Commerce Subcommittee today, defended block booking of Motion Pictures as legitimate and traditional business practices. The producers right to sell their merchandise in their own way, Kent said, is sacred so long as they are "In free and open competition." 4-6-39

Georgetown U. prexy asserts neutrality laws impractical. Urges Pan-American front. Washington, D.C., May 3. Dr. Edmund A Walsh, Vice President of the Georgetown University here and head of the Foreign Service School, told the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations today that no satisfactory neutrality law is possible and suggested a bloc of 21 American republics as a front against foreign aggression in this hemisphere. Wage reductions are necessary, N.Y. Central Prexy tells fact finding board. Washington, D.C., Oct. 6. Wage reductions are necessary to enable railroads to balance their budgets and meet competition, F.E. Williamson, President of the N.Y. Central Railroad, told President's fact finding board today. He added that unbalanced budgets tend to divert business to competing industries and increase railroad unemployment. Williamson declared that the New York Central's deficit for the first eight months of this year was $20,500,000. The largest ever incurred for a similar period, 10/6/38
