A corner of the prison yard at the Kharkov Institution. This prison was used to hold the victims which Bolshevik Court condemned to death in wholesale fashion. The heap of litter in the corner is full of ghastly fragments of bone, mute but eloquent testimony of the horrid scenes that have taken place in this compound. The stains on the wall, and lower stains now covered by the heap of refuse were made by the daily executions in which the condemned stood in a line, hands tied behind their backs and facing the tow of soldiers, to be shot. This photograph was taken by the American Red Cross personnel, who for purposes of Distributing medical supplies, was attached to the Units of the Volunteer Army
