PWA ready for recovery gun--Ickes. Washington, D.C., April 26. Secretary Ickes today told the House Appropriations Sub-Committee in hearing on President Roosevelt's recovery program that the PWA has 2,714 approved public works projects which could be started within "60 to 90" days. Ickes statement was disclosed to newsmen by Rep. Clifton Woodrum, Chairman of the Sub-Committee. While he refused to make a statement, Ickes did say he had no objections to making PWA permanent as proposed in a bill by Rep. Alfred Beiter. In the group, left to right: (seated) Rep. J. Following a meeting today with housing experts from all parts of the country, Secretary of Interior Harold Ickes views a a map showing the location of the many low-cost housing projects now under way. Dr. Howard A. Gray, head of the PWA Housing Administration and Ickes' choice for the newly created $10,000 post as administrator of the U.S. Housing Authority, points out the locations to the secretary.
